Daghmouss Honey

Morocco's rarest mountain honey — bold, warming, with a signature peppery finish.

350 DH

Daghmouss honey is gathered from the flowers of a spiny, cactus-like euphorbia that clings to Morocco’s arid mountain slopes. Intense and warming, with a distinctive gentle bite on the finish, it is one of the most prized — and hardest to find — honeys in the country. A honey for those who like character in the jar.

Description

A rare treasure from Morocco’s wild mountains

Daghmouss is the Moroccan name for a spiny, succulent euphorbia that grows where almost nothing else will: the sun-baked, rocky slopes of the Anti-Atlas and the Souss highlands. Its short, unpredictable flowering season and remote terrain make this honey genuinely rare. Each harvest is small, and every 1kg jar represents patient work by beekeepers who move their hives deep into the mountains to catch the bloom.

Why Moroccans prize it

In Moroccan households, Daghmouss honey has long held an almost legendary status. It is the honey families reach for when the cold season arrives — a spoonful in the morning, stirred into warm milk, or taken slowly on its own to enjoy its warming depth. Its reputation is built on tradition and on taste: powerful, full-bodied sweetness followed by a subtle peppery tingle that lingers pleasantly at the back of the throat. Connoisseurs consider it one of the great honeys of North Africa.

Origin and terroir

Our Daghmouss honey comes from high-altitude euphorbia fields in southern Morocco, far from cities and intensive agriculture. The plant thrives in dry, mineral-rich soil, and that harsh terroir shows in the honey: a deep amber colour, a dense texture, and an intensity you simply will not find in milder floral honeys. It is harvested raw and simply filtered — never heated, never blended.

How to enjoy it

  • Take a small spoonful on its own — a little goes a long way.
  • Stir into warm (not boiling) milk, water or herbal tea to soften its bite.
  • Drizzle sparingly over fresh bread, amlou or aged cheese for a bold pairing.

Like all raw honeys, Daghmouss may crystallise naturally over time. This is a sign of purity, not a defect — simply warm the jar gently in a bowl of warm water to restore its texture.
